Need More Web Site Traffic?

Most website owners reach a point where they want more web site traffic. They realize very quickly that putting up a website is one thing, but getting traffic is another. Are you one of them? Here are some things you can do to increase website traffic…

The place to start is when you first create your web pages. Each web page should have a topic with one or more keywords that reflect the topic. Start with website page optimization. That is, making sure that your keywords are used in the right places and the right amount of times on each web page.

Unless your website traffic will be coming from personal referrals, you will need search engines and directories to bring you traffic. You need to submit your website to them to allow your web pages to show up in search results.

The four big search engines (Google, MSN – now known as Live, Yahoo!, and Ask.com) all allow you to submit sitemaps to them. This helps them to index your website and results in more of your web pages showing up in search results.

A very important activity to kick off as soon as possible, is link building. This not only brings you visitors from the websites that link to your website, but also raises your website’s importance in the eyes of the search engines.

Another cool way to increase on-line traffic is to create an RSS feed and to add your website news as news items to your RSS feed. Visitors can then subscribe your RSS feed and you have an easy way to stay in touch with them.

Many web site owners publish a newsletter that visitors can subscribe to. This is a really good way to stay in close touch with visitors and keep them aware of your site.

There are several websites where people can submit articles they write. You could write articles related to your website topic and post them on the article websites. Your name and website appears at the bottom of the article. This gives you and your website great exposure and should result in more web site traffic!

If you participate in online discussion forums, you could promote your website on the forums. I’m not talking about blatant advertising, but mentioning your website as a helpful solution to someone else on the forum who has a problem. You could ask your visitors to do the same.

Most of the website promotion techniques above should be free or low-cost to implement (all of it comes free with Site Build It).

Advertising (Google Adwords) is one option that will cost you some money, but you can control how much it costs you. So it is worth looking into.

The more of the above techniques you can implement, the better. You should get great returns in the form of increased web traffic.
